A voice that carries the orchestra
Singing with a twenty-piece orchestra takes a solid foundation. Behind the singer are four trumpets, four trombones, five saxophones and the rhythm section — and the voice has to sound natural above all that power, without shouting and without losing colour. Mirka Lendělová has the best possible preparation for it: classical vocal training and years of experience with a varied repertoire.
Education and competitions
Mirka Lendělová (full name Miroslava Lendělová) graduated in singing from the Plzeň Conservatory. At the Faculty of Education of the University of West Bohemia in Plzeň she then completed a master’s degree in singing and music education under doc. Svatava Luhanová.
She has competed successfully in singing competitions including:
- the Bohuslav Martinů Song Competition,
- the Olomouc Singing Competition,
- the Czech and Slovak International Competition of Montreal.
Teacher and soloist
Alongside her concert work, Mirka Lendělová teaches — she teaches music and singing and leads a children’s choir. She performs regularly as a soloist with a varied repertoire, accompanied by chamber and larger ensembles.
Her teaching experience can be heard in her singing. She knows exactly how the voice works, how to pace it through a long ball evening and how to stay in tune even when the orchestra is playing at full power.
With Big Band Karlovy Vary
Mirka has sung with Big Band Karlovy Vary for many years. Together with swing singer David Kleňha she forms the orchestra’s pair of soloists, so the programme can alternate female and male vocals and famous duets. You can hear her at concerts in the Karlovy Vary Municipal Theatre, at town balls and gala balls, and at Advent concerts.
Thanks to her classical training she moves easily from swing standards through Latin to ballads, where her work with dynamics and vocal colour stands out. At a ball, it is precisely the alternation of two voices that keeps the programme varied all evening.
