The Karlovy Vary Municipal Theatre is the home stage of Big Band Karlovy Vary. We play here regularly — in a hall whose sound and atmosphere suit the orchestra perfectly.

A building with a hundred-year head start

The theatre opened in 1886 to a design by the Viennese architects Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer, who built dozens of theatres across Central Europe. The main curtain was painted by Gustav Klimt, his brother Ernst Klimt and Franz Matsch.

And a small coincidence: Big Band Karlovy Vary was founded in 1986 — exactly one hundred years after the theatre opened.

Why it is a good hall for an orchestra

A historic theatre hall has naturally warm acoustics and the audience sits close to the stage. For a big band, whose strength lies in acoustic wind instruments, it is an ideal setting — the sound is full, but never tiring.

Our soloist, jazz singer David Kleňha, also performs regularly at the theatre.
